Project Background
HealthyDiets4Africa (HD4A) is a six-year (2023–2028) transdisciplinary initiative; it is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe framework (HORIZON-CL6-2022-FARM2FORK). The project addresses Africa’s "triple burden" of malnutrition-undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and obesity through the strategic diversification of food systems.
Aligned with the EU Green Deal and the Farm-to-Fork Strategy, HD4A operates across eight African countries (Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, and Uganda). The project is executed by a consortium of 21 global partners; these include the Africa Projects Development Centre (APDC Group), Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen, IITA, and the Africa Rice Center. The Africa Projects Development Centre spearheads the Nigerian “Living Lab;” focusing on youth-led agribusiness hubs and the commercialisation of diversified, healthy food products.
