Position Summary
We are seeking a Programme Officer to provide critical support to our resource mobilization strategy. This is a hands-on role for a professional with a proven track record in Funding, Proposal Research and Development, Pipelining Donors and Partnerships.
You will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities, leading the development of high-quality proposals, managing donor relations, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. The ideal candidate is a first-class writer, a meticulous researcher, an excellent stakeholder engager, and is passionate about our mission.
Reports to: Economic Research and Resource Mobilization Manager/Director of Programmes.
Position Type: Full-Time.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategy & Opportunity Identification:
- Contribute to the implementation of the organization's resource mobilization strategy.
- Conduct continuous, in-depth research and analysis of the donor landscape to identify new funding opportunities (including bilateral, multilateral, foundations, corporate, philanthropic and private donors).
- Maintain a robust pipeline of funding opportunities and manage the internal tracking database.
- Perform due diligence on potential donors and partners.
2. Proposal & Grant Development:
- Lead the end-to-end development of compelling, high-quality concept notes and full proposals, ensuring alignment with donor priorities and organizational goals.
- Support proposal development teams, working closely with Programme, Finance, Incubation, and M&E staff to gather technical inputs, develop logical frameworks (logframes), and create realistic budgets.
- Write, edit, and proofread proposal narratives, case studies, and supporting documents to ensure clarity, coherence, and impact.
- Ensure all applications are submitted on time and meet all donor requirements.
3. Project Management & Donor Relations:
- Support the preparation of high-quality, timely narrative and financial reports for donors, in collaboration with relevant teams.
- Serve as a point of contact for specific donor and partner inquiries.
- Support donor stewardship activities to maintain and strengthen relationships with existing funders.
4. Knowledge Management:
- Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all proposals, grant agreements, and donor communications.
- Develop and update institutional resources (fact sheets, capacity statements, impact reports, case studies etc.,) to support resource mobilization efforts.
- Contribute to internal learning and capacity building on proposal development and donor trends.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education:A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Development, Agriculture, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Experience:A minimum of 1-3 yearsof progressive, professional experience in resource mobilization, proposal writing, and grant management within the non-profit or development sector.
- Track Record:Demonstrable success in securing funding from a range of donors. (Experience with donors like USAID, FCDO, EU, UN agencies, or major foundations is highly advantageous).
- Knowledge:Strong understanding of the donor landscape in Nigeria.
Required Skills
- Exceptional Writer:Outstanding English writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and compelling narratives.
- Analytical & Research Skills:Proven ability to identify opportunities, understand donor priorities, and analyze funding guidelines.
- Organization:Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
- Financial Acumen:Experience in developing and reviewing proposal budgets.
- Interpersonal Skills:Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders/key individuals.
- Tech Savvy:High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with database management.
- Personal Qualities:Proactive, detail-oriented, resourceful, and committed to the highest standards of work.
