As part of activities to celebrate World Food Safety Day Week, a delegation from The Centre led by Mary Ijeoma, nutrition officer, alongside the Department of Food and Drug Services led by Dr. John Atanda, ably representing the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, held an impactful awareness rally on Friday, June 13th, at Garki Market in the heart of Abuja, FCT. This initiative is part of a larger collaboration with a consortium of partners, including Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and other key stakeholders committed to food safety advocacy.
The event aimed to directly engage with the broader market community and citizens, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring food safety for the general population. The rally featured demonstrations of proper food handling and hygiene practices, speeches by experts, and Q&A sessions where people could ask questions about safe food preparation and storage. Educational materials, including leaflets and posters, were also distributed.

This community outreach, supported through the Centre's European Commission-powered HealthyDiets4Africa nutrition programme, reflects the Centre's ongoing commitment to promoting public health awareness and empowering communities with the knowledge needed to maintain food safety standards for everyone's wellbeing.
